Funding is Available

So many of you asked if funding is available for the Nonprofit Management Certificate program, and now it is!

Nonprofit Sector Link opens up a bursary opportunity for 17 candidates, specific for the following course that is going to be offered at Keyano College. The deadline for this application is on Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 5:00 pm

The eligibility for bursary is based on a number of things, including being a member organization to Nonprofit Sector Link. We also like to take this opportunity to thank those who have expressed a strong interest in taking the Nonprofit Management Certificate course. Our support goes out to you all. Introduction to Nonprofit Management
The Introduction to Nonprofit Management is designed to be the first course of a Certificate in Nonprofit Management offered by Keyano College Continuing Education. The certificate will consist of classroom based courses offered at Keyano College and online courses offered by Mount Royal University. As the introduction to the program, this course will provide students with an overview of the nonprofit sector in Canada, identify and explore some of the key concepts in nonprofit management, and discuss some key issues in the field of nonprofit management. The course material will be related to local case studies of nonprofit organizations.


Learning Objectives
Define nonprofit organization, the scope of these organizations in Canadian society and the role of nonprofit organizations in Canadian society;
Develop a taxonomy of types of nonprofit organizations and their purposes;
Identify the various ways nonprofit organizations are formed, the advantages and disadvantages of each type of organization, and the legal framework within which nonprofit organizations operate in Canada;
Identify the process by which some nonprofit organizations become registered charities and the implications charitable registration has on operations;
Relate theories of governance of nonprofit organizations to the different types of organizational structures within the broad framework of nonprofit organizations;
Plan for the sustainability of a nonprofit organization, including financial and human resources, programming effectiveness and communication with stakeholders and constituents;
Explore the management and leadership competencies that are required for success in nonprofit management and how these are applied to a career path in the nonprofit sector;
Understand some of the challenges faced by the nonprofit sector in Canada.
