Culture and Community Services job opportunities

The Culture and Community Services Department of the Alberta Government provides a broad range of programs that support a high quality of life and are valued by Albertans. Support to Alberta’s arts and cultural industries enhances the lives of all Albertans and helps to attract and retain the creative and skilled knowledge workers Alberta needs to ensure continued prosperity.
There are currently two positions available with the Arts Branch of Culture and Community Services. The Arts Branch is a dedicated team, committed to promoting and supporting Alberta’s vibrant arts community. The Branch manages more then 10,000 works of art – 30% of which are on loan, placement or part of a travelling exhibition at any one time.

Arts Collection Registrar-temporary full time position
As the Registrar, you will be responsible for tracking and coordinating the movement of art within the 17 art collections managed by the Arts Branch, including the flagship Alberta Foundation for the Arts collection. You will also be responsible for maintaining an extensive database (HeRMIS) and for ensuring that all works, including new acquisition, are properly documented, photographed, bar-coded and entered into the database.

This position requires a related post-secondary diploma and at least three years related practical experience in fine art collection management. Demonstrated technical expertise in areas such as art registration, risk management, art conservation and maintenance, and art handling is preferred. Experience working with Copyright, FOIP and other applicable legislation, and the Canadian Conservation Institute would be considered assets. Equivalencies will be considered.

Arts Collection Consultant-permanent full time
We are currently seeking a highly motivated, well-organized individual to administer collection placement programs in the Arts Development Section. The successful candidate will require the ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills in all aspects of specialized art object packing and crating, as well as exhibition development, design, fabrication, layout and installation. 

The position requires a University or College degree with a major in Fine Arts, Art History, or Cultural Resources Management and a minimum of five years related practical experience in fine art collection management. Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta’s visual arts community and its visual artists would be considered assets. Equivalencies will be considered.
