Mesmerizing Fashion Show: A Follow Up

Below is a message the Nisa Collection team:

Where East meets West
19th June: It was noon on Sunday at McIsland Park and women in a grand array of colour shuffled into the Miskanaw Ballroom from different parts of town. The event that attracted women from all cultures and walks of life was the East meets West, Mesmerizing Fashion Show by Nisa Collection’s Uzma Syed.

Says Uzma,”When I started the business two years ago, I couldn’t have dreamt of something of this magnitude or proportion. “ Started as a home-based business, Uzma has carved a niche for herself and this event has helped bring out her dedication and talent. An absolutely stunning range of colour, fabric and design, Uzma dazzled the audience with her debut collection. There were a million dresses, Pakistani and Western up for grabs and women were literally grabbing them.

Overheard over the crowds, “which one should I take? I like all of them!” “Hey, who’s taken that? My daughter had her eye on it” Women were excited, not only South Asian Canadians who are used to these kind of clothes and designs but every woman’s eyes lit up as the models swish sashayed the ramp in stunning colours, make-up and jewellery.

Uzma closed the show to a grand applause from the audience to her emotional speech rendered with suave and panache. The first ever Pakistani Fashion show in Wood Buffalo was a hit if the audience is to be believed.

In 2008 reminisces Uzma when she moved into this city after living in Toronto for about nine years, she suddenly realised how difficult it was to get her favourite outfits here. She used drive to Edmonton and even there she did not find the variety she sought. “I used to wait eagerly for my next trip back home to get the latest designs. Being fashion conscious and very trendy, I decided I had to do something to change the situation and began the business with support from my brother in Pakistan and my husband. I am so grateful for the opportunity this city afforded me and generous support from volunteers, sponsors and friends, “adds Uzma Syed, who has just made a new fashion statement in town.

Thus with the gracious hand from sponsors Rohit Communities, Fatima Mian –Remax, Import Connection and the South Asian Canadian Xpress news paper, Nisa Collection believes it has taken a step in creating harmony through colours, promoting multiculturalism and has set apart a portion of the admission fee to support Slave Lake residents.
