(Fort McMurray, AB May 30, 2013) – The moment everyone has been waiting for is here! Events Wood Buffalo is pleased to announce the 2013 lineup for the two-day Nexen CanadaROCKS concert happening June 30 and July 1.
Canadian and international sensation, Simple Plan will be the headliner of the paid concert, happening June 30, local artists including the popular band, Friends of Jack, will kick off the first night of tremendous Canadian talent. After the concert, be sure to stick around for the free Syncrude Fireworks Spectacular. Residents who do not attend the CanadaROCKSconcert will still be able to view the fireworks show from the Sandy Point of the Snye. This will be a show you don’t want to miss!
Alongside the paid concert, there is also a full day of free events taking place on Canada Day, July 1. The free day of events is sponsored by Legacy Dodge and will start off with the Canada Day Parade commencing on Riedel Street, travelling through Franklin Avenue, and ending on Morrison Street. Roving entertainers coordinated by local production company, Eye Flower, under thesupervision of Michael Beamish and Michelle Thorne will be performing throughout the afternoon while activities such as a Teddy Bear Picnic and track-and-field- style games will take place.
The second day of CanadaROCKS will start in the afternoon and will continue into the evening. Showcased at the second night of music will be many diverse cultural talents including The Carly Rivers Band, Mackenzie Walas, Daniel A. Gillies School of Rock, The Shantelle Davidson Band, Canadian Idol runner-up JayDee Bixby and the Led Zeppelin Show, a Zeppelin Tribute Band.
“We’ve been working incredibly hard to make this year’s Canada Day a great celebration,” says David Whitelock, Executive Director, Events Wood Buffalo. “Securing a suitable venue has been a bit more of a challenge this year, however we are extremely delighted that the Clearwater School Field has been made available to us as we have executed successful community events at this location in the past. We are in excited to bring world-class Canadian acts to this field and our region for a weekend of music, fun and civic pride.”

The June 30 paid concert will cost $65, while the July 1 concert is free for the public. Both concerts and all other events besides the Canada Day Parade will take place at the Clearwater School Field on Hardin Street.
