Christmas is the season for creativity not for shopping. This year instead of going to a crowded shopping mall to buy Christmas decorations stay home. That’s right stay home! Make some hot chocolate, take out the craft bin, search through the recycling and get creative! Not only will you save money but you will have a blast doing it. Feel the Forces Discovery Lab 2013


Discover some of the different forces of the world through hands-on experiments. 

Measure friction with some familiar every-day objects, you may be surprised. 

The force of gravity is what creates weight on Earth. Test this forces and see the effect on a rubber band. 

Roller coasters stay in place because of centrifugal force. See this in action with a simple experiment using a spinning cup. 

Every Saturday and Sunday in March, 10 am to 4 pm. 

Discovery Lab is self-guided and requires adult supervision. 

Discovery Lab is included with admission.

Aural Borealis Sound System, The Sticks and Events Wood Buffalo presents Chali 2na and House of Vibe, visuals by Honeybee


MC, Musician, Actor, Painter, Renaissance Man, Legendary front man and MC for Jurassic 5 and founding member of Ozomatli, Chali 2na had done it all. From his days growing up on the hardscrabble streets of Chicago's south side, to his subsequent explosion onto Los Angeles' burgeoning hip-hop scene Chali epitomizes the portrait of a 21st century artist.

House of Vibe is a collective of various artists who share the same groove, each with their very own distinctive style. "House of Vibe, one of the hottest live hip-hop/funk bands since the last go-around of Public Enemy." - Jason Schreurs, Exclaim.ca

HUB Family Resource Centre Fall 2012 Programs

The HUB Family Resource Centre implementing new Fall 2012 Programs and Resource Guide to incorporate more programming and education

Starting October 1, 2012 The HUB will be implementing their new FALL 2012 Programs and Resource Guide (October to December). The new guide shall include program calendars for Franklin HUB, Timberlea HUB and Hub on Wheels (HOW) and a variety of tips and resources for families of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

The HUB is excited to announce the implementation of new programs, including weekly parenting education (with child minding available),‘ Sign a Little’ and ‘Bend and Bond’. Due to popular demand, The HUB will be offering ‘First Things First’, a program designed especially for the inquisitive first time expecting parent(s). The hours of operation for both HUB locations will remain 10:00am to 4:00pm from Monday to Friday. Families are welcome to bring their lunches from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, with full access to kitchen facilities.

Big Spirit Festival 2012

Dear Members, Friends and Cooperating Partners,

The Multicultural Association on behalf of Events Wood Buffalo is proud to announce to you the first ever BIG SPIRIT FESTIVAL. This festival celebrates the diversity of our region and will feature the world's greenest carnival featuring 25 amazing rides, all powered by vegetable oil! The festival will also feature FREE live music from multiple Juno Award winners Digging Roots and Kiran Ahluwalia. The festival will run from 31st August - 3rd September 2012 at the Snye.

We are looking for local talent to showcase our culturally diverse region. Please join us in celebrating this event and making it a success by signing up to participant as a performer. Both groups and individuals are welcome. We have 2 hour slots for performances on September 1st and 2nd from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm to be filled on first come first serve basis.

Fort McMurray, AB, August 21, 2012 – Events Wood Buffalo invites everyone to Fort McMurray’s newest festival – Big Spirit – featuring the world’s greenest carnival and FREE live music from multiple Juno Award winners Digging Roots and Kiran Ahluwalia with support from local talent including DJs In the Sticks.

Friday, Aug. 31 – Monday, Sept. 3 the carnival is coming to town! Sustainival, the world’s first green carnival, is setting up along the Snye. Each of their 25 amazing rides is powered by recycled vegetable oil including thrill-seeker favourites like the Zipper, the Scrambler, and a Ferris wheel. Sustainival also has a full Midway with games, cotton candy, and more.

Performing on Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2 Juno Award winners for Aboriginal Album of the Year, Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award and Native American Music Award winners Digging Roots. Also headlining Saturday and Sunday is Kiran Ahluwalia, winner of the Juno Award for Best World Music Album of the Year 2012. Under the Sea! at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre





Under the Sea! Drop-in Discovery Labs will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays beginning on Sunday, June 3 until Sunday, July 1, 2012.

Come explore some "under the sea" science at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. Make a sand scupture, learn a little bit about your favourite sea critters, and make some waves!

International Trails Day

International Trails Day is here! We will be holding a family fun scavenger hunt throughout Birchwood Trails, with a free BBQ to follow! Everyone who attends will be entered into a raffle to win an awesome door prize! Participants who are part of the scavenger hunt will have an opportunity to win a grand prize!

Amazing Astronomy at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre

The Oil Sands Discovery Centre is bringing you an out-of-this-world experience by giving you the unique opportunity to observe the night sky from inside the dome of a real planetarium!
Drop-In Planetarium shows will be offered Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the month of February at the times noted below. Planetarium shows are included with admission. Space in the planetarium is limited so arrive early! 

Large groups must pre-book to view the planetarium separately. To inquire about available times contact Diana Moser at extension 231. Spaces are filling quickly so book early!

An astronomy themed Discovery Lab will also be offered Friday afternoons, Saturdays, and Sundays for the entire month of February! Included with admission.
