Keyano Theatre Company Exposes its First Play of the 2012-2013 TELUS 4-PLAY Drama Series
For immediate release
October 3,
2012
Extremities expected to hit
audiences with a razor sharp tension never before seen on the Keyano Theatre
Stage.
Keyano Theatre
Company exposes its first play of the 2012-2013 TELUS 4-PLAY Drama Series on
October 12. Be prepared for a theatrical shocker as an attempted rape turns into
a twisted test of wills and a shattering conclusion. Exploring the nature of
violence and the power of secrets, audiences are sure to be affected in a way
that will last long after the play ends.
Paul Gelineau returns
to Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre as the Director/Fight Director for
Extremities written by William Mastrosimone. He served as Artistic
Director of Keyano Theatre from 1999-2008 and has directed numerous Keyano
Theatre productions including Jesus Christ Superstar, Annie,
Strangers Among Us and Who’s Afraid of Virginia
Woolf?
“This
is a very difficult play to do, and at times a difficult play to watch. Violence
against women is a devastating occurrence and sadly continues to challenge our
society every day,” says Gelineau.
Raw, torturous, spine-tingling, Mastrosimone's Extremities takes
you to the edge and dangles you upside down. “In
this production we hope to bring to light the emotional, intellectual and
societal challenges surrounding female victimization, and how some have to cope.
This is not a work of fiction; it is a study in how a victim is created, how it
changes them and what some do to survive.” Gelineau
explained.
According to Statistics Canada, over one in ten Canadian women say they
have been stalked by someone in a way that made them fear for their
life.
Extremities tells the story about how three women survive an attack and
how they are changed forever. This is a story to help us challenge the issues
openly. This is story about fighting back.
Extremities
opens Friday, October 12 at 8.p.m with a special post-show champagne reception
catered by the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre. The play also runs October
13, 17, 18, 19, 20 at 8 p.m.Rated R for violence and nudity and coarse language
