Events Wood Buffalo presents An Evening With Satan

Satan is running his own self-help seminar for Humans. Throughout the hour-long performance, Satan takes the audience through his 6-6-6 step program which he believes will help humans live a fuller, happier life. the seminar is interspersed with stories of the Devil's own life, the memories which have shaped him, and ultimately led him to develop this seminar. An Evening with Satan is written, created and performed by Elliott James and Elizabeth Hobbs and produced by Edmonton-based theatre company Punctuate! Theatre.

A one-woman show, Anasula is about a seven-year old girl named Tommy trying to understand where her Mother went when she passed away. Tommy has an unusual imaginary friend named Zoe. She lives in another realm and speaks only Ojibwe, Sanskrit and the magic language of Falsana. Tommy's mother lives in this realm with Zoe. The journey of this charming little girl is funny, touching and magical.

Events Wood Buffalo presents Charlie: A Hockey Story

Hockey meets Shakespeare for a rock'em, sock'em theatrcial experience! Using music and storytelling, Jim weaves a tale about his love of Shakespeare, his father's love of hockey, and the important lesson in forgiveness he learned while exploring the hockey career of an uncle he never met - Charlie Sands, a smooth skating right-winger who played in the NHL during the '30s and '40s. Over twelve NHL seasons from 1933-43, Charlie Sands played a Right Wing and Centre for the Leafs. Bruins and Canadiens. Along the way Charlie met many of hockey's greatest legends including Foster Hewitt, King Clancy, Eddie Shore and Ace Bailey. He was involved in one of the longest hockey games ever played and one of the most violent incidents in all of hockey.

You may have seen Chris convincing people they're chickens on national television (CityTV, CTV, Global, CBC) or you may have seen him hypnotize one of your friends at your school or staff party...Or you may have seen Chris but don't remember because it was actually you clucking like a chicken while singing really bad Elvis for an audience of hundreds. Either way he's been performing his hypnotic craft for over 10 years.

After studying with world-class hypnotists, Chris wasted no time and immediately hypnotized a handful of his peers from his high school's entertainment. Fast forward over ten years and he's a seasoned and successful professional entertainer complete with formal training and credentials.

3...2...1...YOU'RE A CHICKEN!!!...Don't laugh, someone right now somewhere is the world just read that and is clucking like a chicken while grazing in his cubical. Poor Guy.

Returing to Fort McMurray for more improv antics is Edmonton's longest running improv theatre (32 years & counting!), Rapid Fire Theatre. Known for their high-energy improvisation and alternative theatre, Rapid Fire will make you laugh until it becomes a form of abdominal exercise!

Infamous in Edmonton for their weekly shows, Theatresports and CHIMPROV, Rapid Fire also produces Improvaganza, an annual international Improv festival, as well as the Wildfire Festival, a festival especially for gutsy high school students. They also produce numerous shows at The Edmonton International Fringe Festival, as well as Fringes across the country.

What would it be like if your best friend was your sister-in-law, and your husband's wife? Join these two sweet "sister wives" from a BC polygamist society in this satirical comedy, as they "reform" their way across Canada - revealing the real side of polygamy.

This show includes: audience participation, true Polygamist facts/research, character mash ups, jump rope, history and song!! The Progressive Polygamists shines a new light on this topical and controverial community and leaves an audience wondering the right and wrongs of polygamy, and its role in Canadian society today.

Henry VIII and All Six Wives...Is it Tudor much to handle? The Betrayed Wife, The Scheming Wife, The Peacemaker, The Ugly German, The Slutty One, The One in Love with Someone Else, Six Queens, Six Love Stories, Six Deaths, ONE ACTRESS!

It all starts in the afterlife, in a bizarre waiting room of sortss. One by one, the wives of Henry VII arrive, much to the shock and dismay of each previous wife. What culminates is the heated frenzy of an ex-wives club where these women swap stories, toss Anne Boleyn's head around, pick on the ugly German one and, most importantly, fight for the right to be acknowledged as Henry's true bride and eternal partner. But when Henry arrives...everything changes.

Events Wood Buffalo presents Lavina: A Modern Fairytale of Gigantic Proportions

Lavina is 8 years old. Lavina is 8 feet tall. Lavina has a giant imagination, a giant sense of humour and a giant heart. Join her hilarious adventure and meet

everyone from Muffles the cat to Prochenko the microsopic warrior. Battle the crab dragon, save the land of Bukya, and find a place where everyone belongs.

Created and performed by Travis (from last year's Best of Festival winner Houdini's Last Escape at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival) with direction and dramature from Fringe veteran Ryan Gladstone (Every Story Ever Told, Freud vs. his Ego), this family-friendly fantasy adventure promises laughs, attempted dancing and an important reminder about self-worth and belonging that's inspiring for humans of all ages.

Recommended for humans who like to laugh aged 5 to 105.

The Red Power Squad is a performing group from Edmonton, Alberta. Formed in early 1998 by founder Conway Kootenay, the RPS was designed to give inner city youth a way out of all the negativity that they faced on a daily basis.

Almost 10 years later the RPS has exploded into a worldwide success. With top notch Traditional Native Dance combined with Emcee, b-boy/b-girl skills that are second to none, the RPS will leave you with a high-octane performance that is hard to forget. RPS performed numerous times at the Aboriginal Music Awards and the Opening Ceremonies of the North American Indigenous Games. They have also performed hundreds of times on a global scale from South Korea to San Diego.

The Syncrude kidsPLAY Wristbands enable you to see unlimited all ages performances per day in both the Keyano Theatre and Fringe Theatre venues. There are lots of family entertainment to partake in; 2 films to choose from daily - see one or see them both! Experience a story come to life in Lavina: A Modern Fairytail to Gigantic Proportions. Enjoy the hip hop beat of Red Power Squad's music and breakdancing. This year, the Syncrude kidsPLAY wristbands will also include access to face-painting, bouncy castles and mini-golf!

Children 2 and under FREE. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry to the Syncrude Playland does not required a wristband. There are many free performances & activities to enjoy!

2012 TransAlta interPLAY Festival Call for Submissions

Fort McMurray, AB, June 8, 2012 - Events Wood Buffalo is currently seeking submissions for the Fringe Stage Series as part of the 22nd annual TransAlta interPLAY Festival in Fort McMurray, AB.

As part of a much-anticipated visual and performing arts festival that is a cultural highlight of the Wood Buffalo region, this year’s Fringe Stage Series will take place the final weekend of interPLAY, August 10-12.
Interested artists/companies are asked to submit an application form and a copy of the proposed script for consideration no later than June 15. Successful applicants will receive a paid honorarium.
