Last night's exhibit opening of "Socius" was the perfect ending to Artists in Residency 2013. The event was a success with great people, great conversation and of course, great art!

Games Legacy Grant - Fall 2013 Allocation

Grants are available for amateur cultural and athletic activities competing or training at a provincial level or higher.
The maximum grant amount is $1,000 for individuals and $2,000 for groups. Limited funds are available.
The deadline to apply for the FALL allocation of the Games Legacy Grant is September 30, 2013.

Call to Local Artists- Photographers, Poets and Visual Artists


Photographers, Poets and Visual Artist

Open to residents of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo  
      
   Deadline for Entry: September 15, 2013

(late submissions will be accepted until October but priority given to those who entered in a timely fashion)                                                                                                                                                                            

Concept in Brief:
Photographer is asked to take a picture of a “Character”, the photo is then given to a poet who creates a poem using the photo as inspiration, the poem is then given to a visual artist who creates artwork using the poem as inspiration but without seeing the original photograph—the photograph, the poem, and the visual art are then displayed together.

Invitation to photographers, poets and visual artists to submit samples of past work in consideration for an exhibition of between 18 and 30 different artists.  Must be able to meet deadlines and complete original project within 4-6 weeks.  Preference given to those who can be inspired from concrete subject matter.  Reference letters accepted but not required. 
Acceptance will be determined by a 3 judge panel.

AIRS (Annual International Representational Show) is an open international, juried exhibition of representational or semi representational original paintings, prints and drawings in any media and in subject matter including portraits, figures, still life, floral, landscape, interiors, wildlife. Work must retain semblance to reality while maintaining the subjective interpretation of the artist. It is open to all living artists worldwide. Grand prize $2000.00.

City Centre McMurray Urban Market 2013 Vendor Package- Aug. 28, Sep. 11 & Sep. 25

City Centre McMurray excited to announce that it is holding three pilot markets this year on August 28th, September 11th and September 25th, 2013.  If you would like to have a stall at one or all of the markets, please complete a vendor package and return it ASAP.  Once your completed application is received, you will be informed if you have been approved to participate or not.

The Artisan Nook is accepting submissions for a holiday-themed exhibition for the period of November 15, 2013 to January 15, 2014. Artists who craft small, artistic objects are invited to submit exhibition proposals. The Artisan Nook showcases the exploration of artistic ideas and innovative processes in artisanal, hands-on mediums. Objects woven, printed, painted, carved or otherwise shaped, coloured or created by the artisan are welcome for display. The Artisan Nook is located in The Paint Spot in the Old Strathcona district of Edmonton.

Reminder: Keyano Studio AIR Open House today

The Wood Buffalo Artist in Residency participants have been working away in their Fort McMurray studios, and they are looking forward to sharing their work with the community. Come by the Keyano Theatre and Arts Centre (AC132) any Monday until August 26th, 2013 between 4 and 7 pm to meet the artists in residency there.

During the Open Houses the artists' studios will be open to the public and the artists will be there working, performing demonstrations in specific mediums or techniques and more. Stop by to meet the artists, ask questions and maybe learn something new.

The Leduc Drama Society is recruiting for production roles for it’s Winter Show, On Golden Pond and the Spring Musical, The Pajama Game. The Winter Show goes on stage February 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 2014. The Spring Musical goes on stage May 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 2014.

A director and producer are needed for On Golden Pond. While director/producer teams are appreciated, you may submit your name individually for either position. Submissions for this show are due August 23rd, 2013 by 5:00pm.

A director, producer, and musical director are needed for The Pajama Game. While director/producer/musical director teams are appreciated, you may submit your name individually for any position.

Visual Arts Studio Work Study- deadline Sept. 3



                                     Banff Centre Call for Visual Arts Studio Work Study
                                  Program dates: November 4, 2013 – November 7, 2014

Visual Arts Studio Work Study programs provide practical real-world experiences in a structured learning environment, which are  designed to expand and enhance participants’ technical skills and to increase knowledge and creativity in the areas of printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, sculpture, and photography. Programs offer a dynamic combination of learning opportunities which include attending workshops, demonstrations, and presentations; contact with professional staff, visiting artists, and faculty; and collaboration with facilitators in Visual Arts and other Banff Centre arts programs.

Work Study placements are appropriate for recent graduates of studio-based programs and individuals wishing to leave their current work worlds or formal advanced studies for a period of time in order to gain professional experience and expand and develop their careers and capabilities. These programs require full-time commitment and independent thinking.

Eligibility: Candidates for the Studio Work Study program must possess a solid foundation in at least one of the studio areas offered by the Visual Arts department (printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, sculpture, and photography), as well as an enthusiasm for learning.

Call to Local Artists: Piano Project

MacDonald Island Park Corporation (MIPC) invites local artists to paint murals on working pianos as part of the The Piano Project. The pianos will be displayed permanently at MIPC as part of an initiative to build capacity and support the development of public art within the region. As part of the application process, artists are required to develop and submit a preliminary visual concept for the mural to be painted on a functioning piano.

Artists selected will be contacted: August 30, 2013
Selected artists to begin artwork: September 2, 2013
Installation of both pianos: September 29, 2013
