Arts Council Wood Buffalo Annual General Meeting

Arts Council Wood Buffalo is an organization committed to supporting, enabling and championing the arts in our region.  The Arts Council Wood Buffalo's annual general meeting and board election is set for Wednesday, December 11th at 6:00pm, Keyano Theatre. Although there is an interim board, there will be 11 members elected during the AGM and this board will begin the development of the mission, mandate, vision and values of the Council. The arts are alive in Wood Buffalo and there couldn't be a better time to develop such an amazing organization.  Types of membership include;
  • Individual - $10 per year
  • Social Profit Organization - $25 per year
  • Business or Corporation - $50
Benefits of membership (stated on the Arts Council Facebook page) 
  • You will be able to let your name stand for nomination for one of the director positions on the board, either as an individual or as a representative of a business, corporation or social profit organization member.
  • You will be kept informed of all our activities, workshops, gatherings and invited to attend and participate with the Member's discount when there are fees involved.
  • You will join a team of individuals, companies and organization who value the arts and are committed to working in common purpose to strengthen the sector. From developing grant programs to advocating or more arts and cultural facilities to inspiring more financial support, the members of Arts Council Wood Buffalo will directly impact the future growth and sustainability of arts in Wood Buffalo.  There is strength in numbers.

Alberta Board Development Program - Great Resources for Boards

Often, we are asked to assist with the development of a board or committee, or to offer guidance in create a more effective committee.  The Government of Alberta Culture Ministry's Board Development Program is an excellent resource for local boards who are seeking to enhance their structure and development.

The Board Development Program offers workshops, guidance and resources.  You can access their services by visiting www.albertabdp.ca.  

In particular, their information bulletins are filled with tangible bits of advice for issues effecting boards and committees.

Board Development Program Information Bulletins The Board Development Program publishes information bulletins on a variety of board-related issues. Each of the information bulletins published covers a special topic area that is relevant for not-for-profit board members and senior staff seeking information about improving skills and gaining knowledge in the area of governance. The information provided in each information bulletin, including contact names and number, has been reviewed for currency.

Charities Information Session – October 4, 2012

Community Futures Wood Buffalo together with Canada Revenue Agency will be offering a Charities Information Session to all registered charities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. This session is an excellent opportunity for your treasurer, new board members, staff members, or volunteers to learn about your charity’s legal obligations.

The followed topics will be presented:

· Gifting and receipting
· Gifting to other organizations
· Maintaining direction and control of resources
· Keeping books and records
· Filing the Registered Charity Information Return (T3010)
· Revised fundraising guidance
· Alberta Provincial Presentation

Canada Revenue Agency does not charge for this information session. However, organizations who host the events are allowed to charge a fee to cover the cost of hosting. Community Futures Wood Buffalo will charge of $20.00 which includes continental breakfast and coffee break. Space for the event has been contributed by Golden Years Society.

Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Notice of Election and Nomination









Call for Nominations  |  Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce has been supporting business and strengthening our community since 1906. They are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life by actively supporting business, economic growth and diversification.
 The policies and programs of the Chamber are determined by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership. Each elected Director will serve a two-year term, sit on at least one committee or task force and are expected to be active participants of Chamber events. Nominations for the 2012-2014 Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will close on February 16, 2012.
Candidates for election shall be members of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce in good standing; shall agree in writing to stand for election; and shall be nominated in writing by a member of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce in good standing.
 To be nominated requires:

  • completion of the Statement of Nominators
  • completion of the Statement of Nominee
  • delivery of the completed nomination form to the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, #304, 9612 Franklin Avenue, Fort McMurray, AB T9H 2J9 by 5pm, or attend the final call for nomination luncheon that takes place on February 16, 2012.
