The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is seeking an outgoing and highly motivated individual for the role of Communications Coordinator. This position is part of the Marketing and Communications team that gets the word out that the AGA is an art museum of national significance for our city and province. The Communications Coordinator will continue to build and sustain a positive profile for the AGA through media relations, internal and external communications and social media. They will establish relationships with key community stakeholders, identifying and leveraging opportunities to enhance the Gallery’s visibility within the national and international arts community.
The Communications Coordinator works to create and maintain buzz about the AGA and its vibrant and diverse exhibition, public and education programming. This position liaises with all Departments in order to gain an understanding of the AGA’s strategic and programming objectives, and effectively develop internal and external communications, including newsletters, staff briefs, website content, social media content, etc.
Qualifications
A degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or other related discipline, along with at least three years of related experience in a communications/media relations position is required; an Art History background and experience in the visual arts or non-profit sector are highly desirable
Excellent verbal communication, writing/editing, organizational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the functioning of the news media and experience in working effectively with reporters and editors
Ability to communicate effectively with visual arts experts, as well as general-interest media
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A proven track record of establishing and meeting deadlines
Excellent computer skills in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
Demonstrated knowledge of social media and an understanding of Web-based writing and communications
