This is an open competition for the creation of a mural in Stony Plain.
The selected artist will work with the Town of Stony Plain's Creative Community Committee, representatives from the Stony Plain Public Library and members of the community to design, develop and paint a mural on the Stony Plain Public Library Building. The mural will be part of the Town's extensive mural program, which depicts the rich heritage and culture of the community.

More than 30 breathtaking murals, designed by artists from across Canada, illustrate this rich heritage. These outdoor paintings, ranging in size and scope, depict scenes from Stony Plain's past and adorn a number of buildings throughout the community.

- Attend required meetings to determine mural concept and production – June/July, 2012
- Work with the Creative Community Committee and other stakeholders to develop and design a mural maquette
- Paint the mural following established timelines and provide suggestions for community involvement during the process
- Work with the Creative Community Committee and Stony Plain Library to launch the new mural
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in community-based programs
- Excellent communication, organizational and team-work skills
- Experience in mural painting
- Knowledge of the community is an asset
Submission Requirements
- Letter of interest
- Up-to-date resume
- Three (3) reference letters
- Colour slides or photographs depicting a maximum of six (6) past works, including samples of mural work (please label each slide or photo with the following: artist’s name, title, location, date, size and medium; include a postage-paid self-addressed envelope, if you require materials returned)
- Preliminary sketch of conceptual design and/or artistic vision statement for the proposed mural
- Commission fee

ProcessUpon review of submissions, a short list of artists will be contacted to produce a detailed design based on the mural theme. The designs will then be reviewed, and artists will be contacted for a final interview. The selected artist will be required to attend preliminary meetings with the Creative Community Committee and key stakeholders in June/July, 2012. Painting of the mural will take place in a schedule mutually agreed to by the Town of Stony Plain and the artist.
