Alberta Society of Artists Scholarship 2015

Eligibility: Enrolled as a full-time student in a Fine Arts program at a post-secondary institution within Alberta. Students must be taking predominantly 2nd and 3rd year courses. Must be an Alberta resident. 

Criteria: Awarding of the scholarship will be based on a combination of artistic merit, innovation and creativity with consideration of academic achievement.

Submit: Submissions online or by mail must include the following: 
• An up-to-date, one page artist resume or CV 
• Signed application form 
• An up-to-date, unofficial transcript from post-secondary institution 
• 5 artwork images 
• 200 word essay to accompany the submitted images that incorporates a personal statement in relation to the artwork and your artistic practice. 

Submit by: December 1, 2014 
Selection: Blind Jury selected by the Jury Advisor and the Education Chair of the Provincial Board of The Alberta Society of Artists.

2014 Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship- Deadline June 30, 2014

Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship that was created to ensure youth in Anzac and the surrounding area can share in the success of Nexen’s Long Lake in situ oil sands facility.


The Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship provides financial support to high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education and skills training through university degrees and college diplomas, certificate programs at vocational schools and apprenticeships.

The Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship ensures students in Anzac and surrounding areas can share in the success of our Long Lake operations. The scholarship provides financial support to high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education and skills training through university degrees and college diplomas, certificate programs at vocational schools and apprenticeships:

There are no restrictions on the program of study or discipline supported by the Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship. The amount of the scholarship varies:
University/College/Vocational Schools/Technical Schools
• $2,500 CAD per year for a degree, diploma or certificate program of study
• Up to a maximum of four years or until the first degree/diploma is obtained, whichever occurs first
• Up to a maximum of two years or until the first certificate is obtained, whichever occurs first

Apprenticeships
• $750 CAD for each period of apprenticeship technical training (classroom studies) for a maximum of up to four years ($3,000 CAD) or until the apprenticeship program is completed, whichever occurs first

To be eligible for the Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship, applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and have graduated from high school at the time of the award.

Applicants must be graduating, or have graduated in the past five years, from one of the following schools:
• Father Patrick Mercredi High School
• Fort McMurray Composite High School
• Frank Spragins High School
• Holy Trinity High School
• Westwood Community High School.

Applicants must also be a resident of one of the following Alberta communities while attending high school, or have been a resident during the past five years:
• Anzac
• Gregoire Lake Estates
• Fort McMurray First Nation No. 468
• Chard
• Conklin

1. Service: Offering our scuba diving, water safety, clean-up, search and recovery skills to the community.

Queen’s Golden Jubilee Scholarship for Visual Arts –May 1 Deadline

Alberta Culture and Community Services is seeking applications for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Scholarship for Visual Arts.  One scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to an Alberta visual artist, 25 years of age or younger, who demonstrates talent and potential along with clear educational or training goals.

The scholarship will be awarded for the best visual arts submission as well as for the appropriateness and impact of the applicant’s proposed program of study.

High School Art Scholarships to SummerScapes!

The Alberta Society of Artists (ASA) and Visual Arts Alberta (VAA) are working together to make it easier for students to access scholarships. We invite students to submit an application and digital art images for the SummerScapes 2012 Scholarship Program.

Fourteen scholarships will be awarded. The ASA and VAA will award 3 or more to Edmonton Students, 3 or more to Calgary Students and 5 or more to Students from outside Edmonton and Calgary). The scholarships provide the cost of tuition, meals, accommodation, and art supplies at Red Deer College's SummerScapes 2012 (value: $445 + GST per scholarship). 

In addition, The Alberta Society of Artists' Edmonton Branch will select one Edmonton student for the Thelma Manarey Drawing Award ($100 gift certificate) from the entries received. Successful candidates will be contacted after the adjudication process. 

This year SummerScapes 2012 runs between August 05th and August 11th, 2012. The week features an intensive, studio based exploration of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, glass bead making and animation supplemented by visiting artists’ lectures and opportunities to explore different media.

Please apply using the following criteria: 
Scholarships are open to all students residing in Alberta in grades 10 to 12, between the ages of 15 and 17 by August 1, 2012.
A completed application form and letter of recommendation from a teacher.
4-6 digital images of your artwork. (Digital images must be jpegs, 72dpi with the maximum size of each image under .5MB. Maximum file size: 1024 x 768 pixels. Title each image with last name of artist and number of image – e.g. Smith01, Smith02 etc.)

Deadline: received by 4:00pm on May 02nd, 2012 (late applications will not be considered)
