The 5th Annual Timeraiser presented by Suncor and Shell

Hello Artists & Art Enthusiasts,

It’s that time of year again! The artworks have been chosen and are ready to be installed…. The 5th Annual Timeraiser presented by Suncor and Shell will be ready for viewing Monday April 4th to April 29th, 2016 at the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by the Kirschner Family Corporation! Please join us, along with FuseSocial for the opening reception and silent auction event which will take place on April 14th, from 6:30pm – 9pm, event ticket required. As a reminder the opening and event will take place on the second Thursday of April in celebration of volunteer week, April 10th – April 16th.

What is the Timeraiser Silent Auction? Timeraiser is a volunteer matching fair and a silent art auction with a twist. Rather than bid money, participants bid volunteer hours to obtain artwork that has been purchased by FuseSocial from local artists. During the event there will be roughly 20 organizations on-site with information booths for guests to mingle and get to know more about these organizations, the services they provide and their community involvement. There will be a cash bar and an assortment of appetizers will be provided.

A Kaleidoscopic Explosion of Different Worlds Exhibition

MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by the Kirschner Family Corporation is very excited to announce the first art exhibition of 2016 titled A Kaleidoscopic Explosion of Different Worlds, which will be on display from January 11th – January 29th, 2016.

A Kaleidoscopic Explosion of Different Worlds duo art exhibition is a harmonious collaboration of changing form and colour by artists Tammy Huggan & Anastasia Meicholas. These two very talented and diverse artists come together in this exhibition to showcase their individual and collaborative artworks. Coming from very different backgrounds, both artists have distinct styles yet share whimsical childlike characteristics, bold with multiple levels of lines and color. This exhibition, first viewed at a glance, will be sure to catch the viewer’s eye, drawing them into the finer elements and deeper meanings found in the details.

Please join us at the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by the Kirschner Family Corporation for the opening reception on Thursday, January 14th from 7-9PM. There will be live music from Tammy Huggan, light refreshments and a cash bar.

Call for Submissions-2016 Street Banner Contest

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Street Banner Contest is back! The theme for the 2016 contest is My Home – Wood Buffalo Landmarks. The Street Banner Contest is a civic beautification program that aims to engage community members, showcase the beauty of the region and highlight local artists. Four designs will be selected by a panel of volunteer judges from the community. Winning artists will be awarded $500, and have their selected artwork displayed on street banners from May 2016 to November 2016.

Last years’ competition had 46 stunning submissions making it a difficult feat for our artist selection panel to choose only four finalists. The four finalists entries, shown above, had their selected artwork displayed on banners throughout the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in celebration of the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games.
Artists may submit their entry for the 2016 contest from January 6 until 4 p.m. MST to Friday, Feb. 19, 2016. For more information please visit the RMWB website or contact a Community Strategies Coordinator at 780-788-1489 or email beautification@rmwb.ca.
