Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards & Call for Artist

Arts Council Wood Buffalo (ACWB) has recently launched the Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Award.  It is an annual program that recognizes, and celebrates excellence in various areas of the Arts, while building awareness of the contribution of artists to the region.

ACWB is also looking for artists to submit work for the Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards in 2 areas – the awards themselves, and/or for the art and wine pairing reception.  Artists are to submit a proposal to create 13 awards – one for each of the categories – and the work media should be 2D or 3D artwork / fine craft which reflects the following themes: Wood Buffalo; excellence in the arts; culture of creativity; courage and integrity; and/or collaborative leadership.  The pieces should be uniquely crafted pieces specifically for the awards program.   The deadline for submitting a proposal is Friday, September 26^th.  Email submissions and directly related questions should be sent to diana.moser@artscouncilwb.ca

Great Kids Award

In spring 2016, the Government of Alberta is presenting the 16th Annual Great Kids Award to celebrate Alberta’s remarkable young people. Great kids capture the vitality of Alberta by helping, inspiring and changing the lives of others.

These amazing young leaders deserve our recognition because they are role models in our communities. Our future promises to be bright led by kids like these individuals.

Nominate a Great Kid Today!

Nominate a child or youth between the ages of 5 and 18 for positively impacting our communities or the lives of Albertans. Sixteen great kids will be selected from four age categories (5-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 16-18) and celebrated at a special awards ceremony.

Who can be a nominator? Any resident of Alberta can nominate a Great Kid – teachers, coaches, pastors, social workers, neighbours, friends and family!

Look around your community...seek out and celebrate the amazing young people we have in Alberta!

Stars of Alberta 2014 Volunteer Awards Nominations

The search is on for Alberta’s outstanding volunteers as nominations for the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards are now open. From students to seniors, volunteers are the backbone of our communities and you can help to recognize their selfless generosity.

Every fall the Alberta Craft Council presents the annual Alberta Craft Awards and the Linda Stanier & Family Memorial Award for Excellence in Ceramics.  

Over the past nine years over 80 deserving fine craft artists have been honoured with a nomination.  Make 2014 your year to get nominated or take the time to nominate a worthy craftsperson or fine craft advocate for an Award.

Call for Nominations for the Rozsa Awards!

Nominations open for the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards

Nominations open for Alberta’s foremost arts recognition, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards. Albertans are encouraged to nominate the artist or group of artists who exemplify excellence and have had significant impact on Alberta’s cultural scene. 

Eligible artists may work in visual, performing, literary, cinematic or other artistic media, including architecture or design. Nominations must be received by February 15, 2013.

Adjudicators will choose up to three recipients for a $30,000 award, a handcrafted medal, and the opportunity for a residency at The Banff Centre’s Leighton Artists’ Colony.

Recipients will be announced in May and receive this distinction from the awards patron, His Honour, Colonel (Retired) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta at a gala dinner in Red Deer, June 15, 2013. 

The gala is the culmination of Rooted in the Arts, a week-long arts celebration in Red Deer, which was chosen as host city through a competitive bid process.

The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards is one of Canada’s most prestigious independent arts awards programs, designed to raise the profile of arts in Alberta. The awards are made possible through a donor-funded endowment.

Alberta Craft Awards; Call for Nominations

 Annual Deadline: August 1

The Alberta Craft Council presents the Alberta Craft Awards and the Linda Stanier & Family Memorial Award. Nominate someone who deserves to be recognized for their dedication to Alberta's fine craft culture. The Awards Ceremony takes place every October in Calgary. Nominees are featured in the fall edition of the Alberta Craft Magazine and the Recipients are featured in a Discovery Gallery exhibition.

Award of Honour - $500
For a volunteer, supporter, teacher, craftsperson (individual or group) who has made a significant contribution to Alberta's fine craft culture.

Award of Achievement - $500
For an emerging craftsperson/student, in recognition of his/her achievement to date and/or potential (ACC members only).

Award of Excellence - $500
For an established craftsperson who excels in his or her area of craft (ACC members only).

The Linda Stanier and Family Memorial Award for Excellence in Ceramics - $1200

This annual endowed award celebrates the life of Linda Stanier and honours excellence in ceramics. The nominee should work and reside in Alberta and be primarily a studio-based, full-time professional ceramic artist. A couple that works together on the same work may be considered as one nominee. Nominations may be made by individuals, groups or by the Alberta Craft Council

2012 Alberta Heritage Awards

Deadline for Heritage Awards June 1, 2012


The Alberta Historical Resources Foundation's Heritage Awards program recognizes significant contributions of individuals, teams, organizations, corporations, congregations, institution's, municipalities, First Nations and Metis Settlements to the protection, preservation and promotion of Alberta's heritage.


The award categories are as follows;

1. Heritage Conservation 
2. Heritage Awareness 
3. Municipal Heritage Preservation 
4. Outstanding Achievement 

Up to two awards may be presented in each category with the exception of the Outstanding Achievement for which only one award will be presented.  Candidates may be nominated in only one category and projects should have been completed within the past three years.  Self nominations are not eligible.  

Nominations for 2012 must be postmarked no later then June 1, 2012.

2012 Top Ten Endangered Places List

Submit your nominations to Canada’s TOP TEN Endangered Places List by May 18, 2012 

Ottawa, ON March 13, 2012 – The Heritage Canada Foundation is accepting nominations to Canada’s Top Ten Endangered Places List. The list is released annually to bring national attention to sites at risk due to neglect, lack of funding, inappropriate development and weak legislation. It has become a powerful tool in the fight to make landmarks, not landfill.

HCF uses three primary criteria to determine the 10 final sites for inclusion on the list:

• Significance of the site
• Urgency of the threat
• Community support for its preservation

If you know a site that should be included on our list, tell us about it today.

The 2012 list will be announced in July.
