Review of the opening of Freedom of Expression in Broad Strokes

Last night, 30 people gathered to celebrate the opening of  Freedom of Expression in Broad Strokes at the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery.  Guests were treated to the music of a sarod as they explored the exhibit.  This exhibit will be on display until October 25, 2012.

Artist in Residency – ‘Olio’ Opening


Thank you to everyone who came out to the opening of ‘Olio’ on Thursday, September 6.  There was a wonderful turnout and tremendous support for the 2012 Artist in Residency artists and program.

Congratulations to the artists Lucie Bause, Mandy Espezel, Judi Pennanen, Emily Zielke, Alisdair MacRae, and Janet Dean Procure on the success of your residency.

‘Olio’ will be running at the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery until September 30.  Please stop by to enjoy the wonderful pieces.

Sand Silo Mural Public Art Program Unveiling


Today at 10:00 a.m. there was an unveiling for the Sand Silo Mural Public Art Project at the Syncrude   Timberlea Athletic Park.  The mural was created by Larry Hunter who is an artist from British Columbia.  

Larry has worked as a freelance artist/designer for thirty years.  He enjoys large and small-scale public art works and has painted over twenty murals in  British Columbia , Alberta, and Ontario.  To learn more about Larry and his artwork, please visit his website at: www.larryhunterart.com.

Volunteers Needed for the AIDS Walk for Life



Want to help out with the AIDS WALK???

Join us for the 1st Annual AIDS Walk For Life on 
Sunday, September 23, 2012 in Borealis Park!


Registration is 10:00am, the walk is at noon, and the BBQ is to follow.

Volunteering is a great way to get involved with the AIDS Walk for Life, meet new people, and have fun!

Volunteers are needed on the day of the event as well as in the weeks leading up to the walk. There are opportunities for anyone willing to help! Here are just some of the positions available:

Registration: This includes welcoming walkers to the AIDS Walk, gathering walker information, and tallying pledge forms and donations on the day of the Walk.

Fundraising: Want to help out with our fundraising campaign? Volunteer to help out with fundraising activities in the weeks leading up to the AIDS Walk.

Set-up and Teardown: This includes assisting in setting up and tearing down the site on the day of the Walk.

Route Monitors: This includes assisting walkers in navigating their way around the walk routes and making sure everyone stays together during the Walk.

Clean Team: Love the environment? Why not help out in maintaining the cleanliness of beautiful Lakeside Park. Clean Team volunteers will be given garbage bags and supplies to help keep our park clean.

BBQ: Want to help out with the barbeque? Sign up to help us cook hamburgers and hotdogs for hungry walkers!

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is having an Everybody Birthday Party on July 14th from 1-4 at Borealis Park. This event is to celebrate everyones Birthday’s here in Fort McMurray with tons of games, activities, face painting and a huge cupcake cake!

2012 interPLAY Film Festival Call For Entries

The Film Festival is apart of interPLAY, one of the premier festivals in Fort McMurray that is dedicated to celebrating the visual and performing arts. Both the Film Festival and interPLAY are designed to enhance our region and continually enhance the message that Fort McMurray is a home-town rather then a boom-town! interPLAY runs August 3 - 12 this year with the Film Festival awarding prizes and trophies to selected winners! Moonlight Classic

Moonlight Classic

Date:  June 22, 2012 8:00pm - approximately 2:00am
Location: Miskanaw Golf Course (MacDonald Island)
Details:  Participants will receive a welcome gift upon arrival as a special Thank You for supporting The Centre of Hope through their attendance.  The evening kicks off with dinner from 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm, followed by a 2 flight Texas Scrambler teeing off at 10:30 pm.  This event will involve a maximum capacity of 144 Players and welcomes all skill levels! A quick breakfast and prizes will be provided after the tournament at around 2:30am.

Registration includes ($150.00 per person or $600 for a group of four): Social Networking opportunities and late night appetizer buffet, entrance in the 2 flight Texas scrambler, opportunity to win over $100,000 in hole in one and team prizes, quick breakfast and prize giveaways.
