Call for Artists for Riel Park Artwork
The City of St. Albert is pleased to announce a competition for a large, public, free-standing outdoor artwork for Riel Park. The artwork will be sited in the Rotary Park section of Riel Park, an area of family recreation.
Artists are invited to create a visually challenging and inspiring sculptural artwork that will reflect the innovation and optimism of the City of St. Albert, while showcasing and enhancing the powerful beauty of the natural outdoor setting. Those artists subsequently chosen to submit final proposals will be asked to keep in mind the theme of “family” in accordance with the area’s functional design.
The City of St. Albert seeks proposals and qualifications from experienced artists or artist teams with a demonstrated ability to produce permanent outdoor public art. The proposal submission deadline is 4:00 p.m. (local time), August 29, 2014.
This is part one of a two-part selection process. The objective of this pre-qualification process will be to compile a list of interested parties and evaluate them on the basis of experience and qualifications. From the pool of applicants, the City will pre-qualify no more than five artists or artist teams.
The second part of the selection process will be the release of an Invitation to Tender for the Supply of the Outdoor Public Art for Riel Park. This invitation will be given to the artists or artist teams selected from the pre-qualification process. The total award for the selected artwork, covering all costs including fee to artist, is $78,000.
