Canada Rocks! This Weekend
Event Description
A three-day celebration of our Canadian Heritage. Day One will feature the Free Community Concert Series with classic Canadian rock icons Chilliwack. The concert will be followed by a musical fireworks show at midnight. Day Two will start off with a morning parade followed by a Free Canada Day Community Celebration. Guests will enjoy cultural performances on two stages with entertainment for all ages, a multicultural food pavilion and children's activities. Day Two will also include a ticketed Celtic Concert Series featuring Captain Tractor and The Navigators. Day Three will conclude CanadaROCKS 2011 with THE HOTTEST SHOW ON EARTH featuring rock legends KISS in their only Alberta appearance this year.
Day 1: Thursday, June 30
Free Community Concert Series featuring classic Canadian rock icons Chilliwack. (No tickets needed)
6:00 p.m. CanadaROCKS Site at MacDonald Island Park opens
Local opening acts including: Selena Moss, Eva LaPrairie, Mel Boostrom, Tequila Mockingbird
Musical Fireworks display at midnight at the CanadaROCKS site at MacDonald Island Park on the baseball diamonds.
Note: For Public Safety Protocol for the Fireworks Display at the Free Community Concert Series there will be NO ACCESS ON OR OFF MACDONALD ISLAND from 11:45pm-12:45am
Day 2: Friday, July 1
8:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Suncor's Pancake Breakfast in Support of the Multicultural Association
Host: Multicultural Association
Location: Fellowship Baptist Church 141 Alberta Drive
Cost: $2.00
Menu: Pancakes, sausage, juice
10:00 a.m. Celebrate Canada Parade running downtown on Franklin Avenue from Hospital Street to Father Mercredi Street
Theme: Imagine our Mosaic
11:00 a.m. CanadaROCKS Site at MacDonald Island Park opens
11:30 a.m. Singing of O Canada and Opening Ceremony, Welcome by Mayor Melissa Blake, free Canada Day Birthday cake to celebrate Canada’s 144th birthday
12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. 2 stages worth of performances on the World Stage and the Main Stage
Children’s activities in the Kid’s Fun Zone.
Activities include:
Bouncy castles, laser tag, air brush tattoos, henna body art, sand boxes, bubbles, fish pond, flags of the world and Le Francophonie dans le Monde
Festival fare: Multicultural Food Pavilion, Boston Pizza, MacDonald Island Park concession and food vendors. (Menus and prices will vary)
1:00 p.m. Strong Man and Woman bus pull competition in the main parking lot. Sponsored by MacNeill Chiropractic.
4:00 p.m. CanadaROCKS site closes and prepares for turnover for the Celtic Concert Series
6:00 p.m. CanadaROCKS Site at MacDonald Island Park re-opens for Celtic Concert Series (Tickets required for entry)
Local opening act: Raven’s Call
Show features Captain Tractor and The Navigators.
Tickets are $19 for General Admission and $30 for VIP. (+GST)
Day 3: Saturday, July 2
7:00 p.m. CanadaROCKS Site at MacDonald Island Park opens
Opening acts: The Envy and Bad City
KISS – The Hottest Show on Earth ROCKS Fort McMurray.
General admission is $99 +fees- Tickets still available for pick up only at the MacDonald Island Park Box Office
TRANSPORTATION
MacDonald Island Park is restricted for regular traffic July 1 & 2. Parking passes in effect.
Public transit is available. Service is $1.25

Free Public Transit, Shuttles and Park and Ride service is available only on:
July 1st 5pm – 1am and July 2nd 5pm – 2am for transportation to and from MacDonald Island Park

Go Green! Bicycle traffic is welcome at CanadaROCKS. Bicycles can be locked up for free in the AMA Bike Zone.
Items not allowed at the KISS Concert:
1. NO banners, flags/poles or any signage bigger than letter size
2. NO laser pointers, flashlights, glow/fluorescent sticks, etc.
3. NO inflatables, balloons, beach balls, etc.
4. NO weapons or fireworks
5. NO drugs or alcohol
6. NO glass bottles, cans, hard plastic containers or other potential projectiles (Vendors will be permitted to sell beverages, but lids must be discarded and cans opened)
7. NO costumes with sharp items i.e. crystal balls, wire, spikes etc.
8. NO illegal merchandise of any description
9. All large bags, backpacks, large jackets will be stopped and searched.
10. All gifts should be un-wrapped and will be taken at the gates and delivered by authorized personnel only.
NO CAMERAS - Professional (anything larger than a 3” inch lens), video/DVD cameras, audio or visual recording equipment of any description, etc.
