Community Registration Day- Sept 14th 2013

Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude is a one-day event at MacDonald Island designed to allow community members to access information and registration services for a variety of organizations and activities – all in one location! It’s an opportunity for families and individuals to engage with all of the sport, recreational, cultural, and community initiatives in the Wood Buffalo region.

The event is set up in a “tradeshow” format with each organization or group hosting a booth specific to their activity or organization. Throughout the day community members can visit booths to access all the information they need to become involved in a wide variety of non-profit and community groups. It serves as encouragement to “get up and go”, and become involved in the myriad opportunities available to residents. Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude has an additional benefit for non-profit organizations and community groups, who are able to use this opportunity to build capacity by connecting directly with residents, leading to strengthened social network.

Event Day Schedule

9am to 10am - Exhibitor Set Up at Nexen Field House

10am to 11:30am - Networking Breakfast presented by Non Profit Sector Link at Miskanaw Ballroom. Invites will be forwarded to your organization upon completion of registration.

12pm to 4pm - Exhibition at Nexen Field House

12pm start - Free Volunteer Appreciation BBQ presented by Volunteer Wood Buffalo at Nexen Field House

Service Canada Community Programs

Please share widely with your contacts in the community. In order to facilitate planning my year I  am trying to reach as many people to see what interest there is in the community for my services. I do need a response if your organization would like a presentation.

At Service Canada, we are committed to providing service in the communities where clients live, and to offering greater access to Government of Canada information and services. Service Canada is strengthening its presence at the community level where Canadians live, work and raise families.
Service Canada representatives now travel to selected communities (rural, remote, and urban) to provide assistance.
Through our mobile outreach services, Service Canada staff members work with local communities, non-profit and advocacy groups, health-care professionals, Aboriginal bands and councils, provincial/territorial governments, volunteer organizations, employers, industry and professional associations, educational institutions, unions, and other partner organizations. Through these partnerships, we increase awareness of Government of Canada programs and facilitate access to the services and benefits available.
We work together with community partners to provide information on programs that benefit all our clients including:
                Aboriginal people
                Families and children
                Newcomers to Canada
                People with disabilities
                Seniors
                Youth and students
Our information service is free of charge and can include:
        -on-site seminars for groups, or organizations
        -information sessions
        -Information booths at trade fairs and special –interest shows.

OPEN CALL FOR: ORIGINAL 2D ARTWORKS

The MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation will be hosting a group exhibit for the month of August 2012 with the theme WATER: exploring possibilities.

This group exhibit will feature two dimensional artworks that explore the theme of water in any form (liquid, solid, vapour), location (rivers, lakes, rain, glaciers, snow, tears) and in various interpretations or conceptual connections.

EXHIBITION INFORMATION
There is no entry fee for the Water Exhibit. All two dimensional mediums, sizes and styles are welcomed. Artists living in the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo will be given first preference for a spot in this group show. There will be a limitation of one work of art per artist. Artwork to be dropped off and picked up by the artist at designated times.

The MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery is committed to being all inclusive, to respecting the experience, creativity and talent of all visual artists, to challenging artists to grow and develop, to developing the public’s appreciation for visual art and to recognizing and encouraging both emerging, experienced and professional artists.

ARTWORK SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA

Applications must be received electronically by July 10 , 2012

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Applicants must make a self-declaration as either “student”, “emerging artist”, or “established or professional artist”. 
2. All pieces must be original, not copies or prints are allow 
3. All artwork must be dry and ready to hang. 
4. All pieces must be framed and signed (stretched canvas on a frame is acceptable if it have finished edges). 
5. High Resolution digital copy/picture of your submission 
6. Your name as you would like it to appear in the catalogue 
7. Your biography (max 100 words) 
8. The title of your work 
9. The medium of your work (oil, watercolour, collage, acrylic, mixed media, printmaking, photography, etc.) 
10. The dimensions of your work 

SELECTION PROCESS:
July 16, 2012 - Artists will be notified by e-mail of selection to exhibit and told when to drop their work off at the gallery.

Artwork will be chosen by a volunteer committee with various levels of curatorial training.
It is the artists’ choice to list a piece of artwork for sale, or not. The price and all arrangements for the sale must be managed by the artist.
Artists are responsible for making arrangements to drop-off and pick-up their artwork at the designated times and place. Because the gallery has no storage space, artwork cannot be stored. 

Any artwork not claimed by the artist by the designated time, or alternate time arranged in advance with the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery, will be deemed donated to our annual charity sale – with all proceeds going to a designated charity or non-profit organization.

SECURITY AND LIABILITY
Basis security measures are in place (periodic patrols by guards, security cameras, safety hooks), but exhibits will NOT be supervised at all times. The gallery is located in a public facility and is a designated fire escape route. The gallery is equipped with sprinklers. All possible care will be taken to keep artwork in the same condition as it was when delivered to the gallery, but neither MacDonald Island Park nor MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery can guarantee this and cannot accept liability for loss or damage to artwork. Each artist will be required to sign a waiver in order to exhibit their work in the gallery. Each artist is responsible for securing INSURANCE for their artwork.
