winterPLAY 2013 was the most successful winterPLAY with over 18,000 people in attendance; however, we still have much work to do and need your help by having you answer our winterPLAY survey. 

Once you do, you can enter to win the draw prize. Events Wood Buffalo is offering a fantastic prize of two VIP Festival Passes to all of our events in 2013 (includes winterPLAY 2014). The prize is valued at over $1,000.

Have your say in Alberta's cultural future

Edmonton... The Government of Alberta is asking Albertans for their help in charting a course for our province’s cultural future.

The online survey, which is available at www.culture.alberta.ca/CultureForum2012 from February 28 to March 28, echoes the questions and topics that delegates of Culture Forum 2012 recently covered.


“Our culture and our cultural pursuits are intrinsic to everything we do and are vital to our quality of life,” said Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture and Community Services. “What makes a tight knit community is the people and the cultural organizations that bring them together. Hearing from a cross-section of community leaders directly involved in cultural programming and services was the first step. Now, it’s critical that we hear from others including those accessing these programs and services.”


Culture Forum 2012 was held in Red Deer on February 24 and 25 and involved nearly 400 representatives of Alberta’s arts, heritage, nonprofit/voluntary, multicultural, creative industries and corporate sectors, as well as a delegation of youth. Delegates heard from presenters and participated in 18 concurrent workshops covering topics such as ‘What does a healthy and sustainable culture sector look like?’, ‘What are the challenges?’, ‘What strategies do you suggest?’, and ‘Where do you see priorities?’ A broad range of ideas, best practices and new innovations were discussed. “I was so impressed by the quality of the discussions and willingness of Culture Forum 2012 delegates to take part in this process,” added Klimchuk. “Hearing now what the broader public has to say about Alberta’s culture will help guide the future direction that government, along with the sector take together."


The Government of Alberta is working to enhance Albertans’ quality of life. The information and feedback received through Culture Forum 2012 and the broader public survey will help government, the corporate community and the culture sector build a solid foundation for culture to prosper in our province.
