Poetry Party for Alberta Arts Days and Issue #5 launch event

You are cordially invited to a Poetry Party to celebrate Alberta Arts Days on October 1 with NorthWord magazine and the Fort McMurray Public Library.

The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Library. There will be participatory activities for youth and adults, such as ransom-note poetry, haiku writing, a poetry wall, and live readings. There will also be a Poetry-on-Demand booth, where you can commission and purchase customized and personalized poems from local poets.

Jennifer Hemstock, President of the Northern Canada Collective Society for Writers which publishes NorthWord, says: "This latest issue contains lovely work by Fort McMurray writers, all set to the theme of 'Light.' The quality of writing generated by our community is worth celebrating at any time, but particularly during the days when our province celebrates every community's culture, heritage, and art. Issue # 5 also continues NorthWord's tradition of using cover paintings by local artists. Megan Storrar painted the wraparound colour cover which perfectly captures the issue's theme of Light,” explains Hemstock.

Alberta Arts Days 2011 runs from September 30 to October 2. According to the official website, “it showcases the province's artists, arts organizations and cultural industries, while encouraging Albertans to discover the important role the arts plays in developing a prosperous, vibrant society.”

The family event is for all ages. We will have Issue # 5 on sale at the event and previous issues will also be available at a discount price. Please come celebrate the arts with us.
