Retreating Agassiz is a recent suite of prints by Jeanette Johns, based on the movements of the prehistoric glacial Lake Agassiz. This body of water, fed by glacial melt water, covered a major part North America and had a fundamental impact on local geography and the global environment.

Johns’ prints of delicate, layered imagery reflect notions of historical documentation and the mystery of passing time. Mapping the relics of Lake Agassiz, the artist breaks down the geographical attributes into symbols and shapes, communicating the specific aspects of a place, and finding beauty and comfort in recording the shared past of our collective history. Jeanette Johns is an artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She completed her BFA (honors) in printmaking in 2008 at the University of Manitoba. Her work often deals with geometric patterns, revealing beauty and logic in surprising ways. Jeanette Johns currently lives in Montreal, Quebec.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
