Win the opportunity to display your artwork across Canada…

I recently travelled to Edmonton where I noticed a very interesting media space in one of the locations I visited. It held a poster that displayed Canadian artists’ images and I thought that this might be a great opportunity for some of the artists in our region.

ART HERE is a contest run by NEWAD that offers the potential for Canadians to display one of their creations throughout Canada.

For a chance to see your work featured in NEWAD's network, just register on their website and upload the file you want to submit. It is free, open to everyone living in Canada and for any kind of artwork (painting, photo, design, etc.).

For more information, check out the website at: www.arthere.ca

Workshop #1
AN INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH AND EVALUATION Sherry Ann Chapman
Assistant Director (Lifelong Learning), Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families, Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta
Community-based research & evaluation (CBRE) is becoming an increasingly recognized, interdisciplinary approach to creating and sharing knowledge. This workshop will offer an introduction to CBRE: What is it? How and when to do? We will begin with a discussion of various definitions of CBRE and principles underlying each. We will draw on participants’ experiences and build in time for networking toward potential, future, local CBRE partnerships.

Workshop #2
DIGITAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
Carolina Cambre
PhD Student, Educational Policy Studies, University of Alberta
This workshop will explore the art/skill of digital storytelling in two parts. In the first part we will discuss the notion of DS as a tool for research, the rules for creating digital stories (when and why to break them),  and what digital stories may be good for in terms of working through some conceptual aspects of this approach. In the second part we will work through our understanding of the DS process through small group activities.

Workshop #3
SURVEY TECHNIQUES FOR SOCIAL RESEARCH
Daven Seebarran
Executive Director, The Health Promotion Centre – Wood Buffalo HIV AIDS Society
This session will provide participants with some innovative tools and samples of how front-line agencies conduct ethical research to inform programs, determine gaps in services, and produce evidence based approaches.  Participants will learn about surveying techniques, research ethics, and dissemination.
